What the Free Program Includes

The official park instructions make an important distinction: physical Junior Ranger badges are awarded in person after a ranger reviews completed work. The park says it is currently unable to accommodate mailed requests for Junior Ranger materials because of high demand and limited supplies.

Two English-language booklets are offered for different age ranges: one for ages 5 through 8 and another for ages 9 through 12. These let families select age-appropriate activities rather than using the same worksheet for every child.

A Junior Ranger can complete the activities by exploring the park and discovering its maritime history. Once finished, the participant brings the booklet to a ranger at the Visitor Center or Maritime Museum during operating hours.

Activities and Award Options

The official page also provides a series of recorded Junior Ranger pledge videos in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, French, and Tagalog. Children who finish a booklet at home can use these to learn the pledge.

The park’s free downloadable booklets are useful for previewing the subject before a trip. They should not be presented as a by-mail badge promotion or as guaranteed shipped materials.

How to Complete the Junior Ranger Activities

  1. Visit the official San Francisco Maritime Junior Ranger page and choose the 5–8 or 9–12 age-group booklet.
  2. Download the booklet before visiting, or request a free printed copy from the Visitor Center or Maritime Museum.
  3. Complete activities during your visit and show your work to a ranger at the park during operating hours to earn the physical badge.
  4. If working on activities at home, use the online pledge resources, but recognize that badge fulfillment still requires in-person participation.

Eligibility, Printing and Fulfillment

The National Park Service expressly states that it does not mail booklets or physical badges for remote participants at this time.

Downloading is free, but badge eligibility depends on visiting and completing the ranger review; avoid suggesting a badge is shipped just because a PDF is available.

Review the National Park Service program instructions for the exact submission channel and the current requirements before requesting a mailed reward or visiting a park location.
