What the Free Program Includes

The program has two important reward paths. At-home or school participants can use a downloadable printable Junior Ranger Angler badge and coloring sheet. A physical Junior Ranger Angler badge is reserved for participants who complete the activity with a participating park or wildlife site.

The program involves National Park Service locations and participating U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service sites. Not every park automatically offers the Junior Ranger Angler badge, so anyone planning an in-person trip should verify participation with staff first.

The booklet explores ways anglers can care for water and fish habitats, identify appropriate equipment, and behave safely while fishing. Completing it does not require past fishing experience; the NPS explicitly welcomes beginners.

Activities and Award Options

The NPS describes a three-step in-person process: find a participating location, receive and complete the free booklet, and share what you learned with a ranger or wildlife manager for a badge.

The downloadable option is suitable for home and school use. Teachers and homeschooling families can also explore the NPS Educators Portal, but the themed Junior Ranger booklet itself is the featured offer here.

How to Complete the Junior Ranger Activities

  1. Open the official Let’s Go Fishing! Junior Ranger program page and download the English or bilingual booklet.
  2. Complete the fish, habitat, equipment, and safety activities at home or school, or bring the booklet to a participating site.
  3. For an at-home reward, download the linked printable badge and coloring sheet. For a physical badge, follow instructions at a participating location and review your learning with staff.

Eligibility, Printing and Fulfillment

The National Park Service explicitly limits physical Junior Ranger Angler badges to on-site participants. Do not mail this booklet to a random park expecting a badge.

The booklet is free. Traveling to a site, fishing permits, equipment, or home printing are separate considerations and are not included in the offer.

Review the National Park Service program instructions for the exact submission channel and the current requirements before requesting a mailed reward or visiting a park location.
