What the Free Program Includes

Although the main program is designed around a visit, the park also describes a way to submit photographs of completed pages or mail in a finished booklet when a family cannot return to the visitor center. Park staff review submissions and can mail the badge.

The park says Junior Rangers are commonly ages 7–13 but welcomes participants of all ages. A completed booklet is what earns the reward; downloading it alone does not qualify a participant.

Printed booklets are available at the front desk of Plains High School and at the Boyhood Farm comfort station. Visitors can ask a staff member for a booklet and pencil.

Activities and Award Options

Families who cannot complete the booklet before leaving may email photographs of their completed pages and a mailing address, or mail the booklet with a return address. This is a concrete badge-request route on the park’s FAQ.

If a family does not have access to a printer, the park invites them to email their mailing address to request a paper booklet by mail. The park also explains how to request replacement booklets or badges if damaged.

The page links to additional national themed Junior Ranger resources, but those are separate offerings and may have different award types.

How to Complete the Junior Ranger Activities

  1. Open the park’s Be a Junior Ranger page and download the program booklet, or obtain one from staff at Plains High School or the Boyhood Farm.
  2. Complete the age-appropriate learning activities and share the answers with a ranger during a visit.
  3. If you cannot return in person, follow the park’s stated email/photo or postal submission directions and include the mailing information requested by park staff.
  4. Allow the park to review the completed work; badge processing is not instantaneous and a delivery date is not promised.

Eligibility, Printing and Fulfillment

The site offers a mail-in option, but it does not promise automatic badges without completed activities. Personal printing and outbound postage may be required.

The park requests patience from people submitting remotely; do not assume a fixed turnaround or a specific supply of badges.

Review the National Park Service program instructions for the exact submission channel and the current requirements before requesting a mailed reward or visiting a park location.
