What the Free Program Includes
The official page specifically supports completing the activities from home. Families can print a virtual Junior Ranger badge and certificate after completing the booklet, while people visiting Canyonlands can take their completed work to the park for a traditional badge.
The main Junior Ranger booklet is available as a roughly 7 MB PDF. The park also provides a separate printable virtual certificate and badge PDF, listed at about 6 MB.
The Explorer Guide emphasizes noticing landscapes, asking questions about wild places, and considering ways to act as a role model. Its reflection prompts invite discussions about wilderness and shared responsibility for the environment.
Activities and Award Options
Toward the end, the booklet asks participants to talk about actions they could take at home, such as reducing waste, conserving water, exploring nature, or sharing stories about parks. These are examples of activity topics rather than a promise that every child must perform all of them.
Canyonlands also supplies an online Junior Ranger pledge video with park rangers. The virtual pledge is a separate part of the experience from downloading the booklet.
How to Complete the Junior Ranger Activities
- Open the official Canyonlands Junior Ranger page and download the Explorer Guide.
- Complete the required activities shown in the guide. Families can use ordinary paper and home printing if they prefer working offline.
- After completing the guide, use the park’s separate PDF to print a virtual badge and certificate and take the virtual Junior Ranger pledge.
- For the physical park badge, bring the completed booklet to the park and follow the ranger review instructions.
Eligibility, Printing and Fulfillment
The printable virtual badge and certificate are different from the physical ranger-reviewed award. The park does not promise a physical badge automatically by mail.
Download files are free, but printing is done with the family’s supplies. A park visit is optional for the digital route.
Review the National Park Service program instructions for the exact submission channel and the current requirements before requesting a mailed reward or visiting a park location.
