What Is Included in the Free Program?

The Crater Lake program has two distinct ways to explore Junior Ranger learning. One is the virtual activity option: watch the park’s videos from home and download the related colorful printable badges. The other is the traditional Junior Ranger Activity Book that visitors can pick up for free in the park or download before a visit.

The distinction matters when deciding which free resource to use. A printable badge tied to a video activity is not automatically the same as the traditional Junior Ranger badge awarded after a completed booklet. Both options are described on the park’s official Junior Ranger page.

What Children Can Learn and Do

  • Virtual Junior Ranger Activities: The park links to educational videos about Crater Lake. After watching, participants can download and print badges associated with the activities.
  • Traditional activity book: The downloadable PDF is approximately 1.8 MB. It is designed for children ages 6–12 or anyone interested and asks for at least seven completed pages to earn the traditional badge.
  • At-home participation: Although the booklet was originally designed for use during a park visit, the park says visiting is not a requirement and provides instructions for emailing completed book pages.

How to Complete the Activities

  1. Open the official Crater Lake Junior Ranger page.
  2. For virtual activities, choose the park’s video link, watch the learning material, and follow the instructions for downloading the associated printable badges.
  3. For the separate activity-book option, download and print the Junior Ranger Activity Book and complete at least seven pages.
  4. If unable to visit the park and using the booklet option, follow the park’s email instructions for scanned or photographed completed pages.

Eligibility, Rewards and Important Details

Videos and digital downloads are free, but home printing uses your own paper and ink. The park does not describe the virtual video rewards as a mailed physical sample.

The official page treats the video activities and traditional booklet as separate paths. Readers should choose the path matching the type of badge or activity they want.

Review the official program page before starting for the most current activity links, instructions, and badge details. These are educational resources, not a guaranteed mailed freebie.
